Thailand Stands Firm On US FTA Patent Talks

Thailand's concerns focus on its HIV/AIDS treatment programme. In October 2005, the country expanded its universal health care scheme to provide immediate access to anti-retroviral (ARV) treatments for around 80,000 people with HIV/AIDS. In doing so, Thailand became the first country in the world to guarantee that all citizens who need ARVs will receive them.
