Nigerian Panel Condemns Pfizer, Kalbe Farma Enters JV
June 2006 | Legal NewsThe trial was undertaken in the city of Kano after a severe outbreak of meningitis and reportedly resulted in the deaths of five children. Pfizer claims that it received all relevant authorisations from both patients and authorities. However, the panel has concluded that Pfizer failed to obtain permission in writing and has alleged that an approval letter from the Nigerian ethics committee was backdated. The panel has subsequently called for Pfizer to be 'sanctioned appropriately' for what it considers to be an ' illegal trial of an unregistered
