SA's Public Health Costs Set To Soar
May 2006 | Market Trend AnalysisResearchers in South Africa claim that the cost of public health services is set to rise within the next five years due to the impact of HIV/AIDS. Large numbers South Africans, currently HIV positive, are set to develop AIDS-related diseases in the coming years, as their conditions deteriorate. The Health Economics & HIV/AIDS Research division (HEARD) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal predicts that HIV patients will soon account for around 60-70% of hospital expenditure. Presently, HIV-related illnesses account for 50% of hospital admissions.
