Indian Drugmakers Target East Africa

Indian drugmaker Plethico Pharmaceuticals is planning to invest KES1.42bn (US$20mn) in a new manufacturing facility in Kenya. The factory is scheduled to begin operations by the end of the year and will provide drugs for the East and Central African market. A wide range of products will be manufactured at the site including ARVs, antibiotics, cardiovascular treatments and anti-malarial drugs. However, due to the sensitive nature of the drug market in the region, this product mix is likely to be frequently revised.
