Zimbabwe Blames Drug Shortages On Sanctions

Zimbabwe claims that its chronic shortages of drug supplies are being caused by economic sanctions and that thousands of lives in the country are being endangered as a result. Dr Edwin Muguti, the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare, recently claimed that although the government wishes to implement a comprehensive ARV programme, it simply cannot afford to. Presently, around 25,000 people are dependent on the state-run ARV programme, although many more in the country are in need of the life-saving treatments.
