Nigerian State To Pay Worker Health Plans

The government of Rivers State in Nigeria has announced that it will pay the mandatory 15% monthly contributions for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHI), all workers in the state for a one year period. Under the NHI, all workers have to contribute 5% of their salaries to the scheme, while employers contribute the remaining 10%. However, Rivers State has decided to pay the entire 15% for workers. The NHI was implemented in 2005 and it si hoped that it will eventually provide accessible, affordable healthcare to all Nigerians.
