WHO Warning On 'Single Drug' Malaria Therapies

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on a number of drug firms in the world to stop selling artemisinin-based, "single drug" malaria treatments to Africa, amid concerns that efficacy levels are falling. The use of artemisinin weakens the parasite that causes malaria but does not kill it, potentially allowing resistance to develop.
