EC Approves Sanofi-Aventis' Breakthrough Obesity Drug
June 2006 | Product LaunchThe European Commission has registered French firm Sanofi-Aventis' potential blockbuster obesity drug, Acomplia (rimonabant), as an adjunct to diet and exercise for the treatment of obese and overweight subjects. Being a first-in-class pharmaceutical, Acomplia is expected to dominate its market, although, with no launched other products to compare its therapeutic capabilities to, unknown risks may surface in the future that would severely hamper its commercial potential.
