Urbanisation Creates Opportunities For Optometry Industry

BMI View: The high prevalence of myopia (shortsightedness) in Asia will continue to boost demands for eyewear, contact lenses and corrective surgical procedures. While there are many causes of myopia, urbanisation is one of the key factors and we highlight that there will be a potential increase in the number of myopic patients in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. As their economies develop, with people moving from the countryside to urban areas, this will bring opportunities for the optometry industry.
