Vitamin Deficiency Highlights Chronic Disease Prevalence

BMI View: There is a significant body of evidence linking vitamin D deficiency with diseases such as osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes and cancer. That said, many of these links remain theoretical, with the nutritional components of these diseases still relatively poorly understood. By measuring levels of vitamin D in the blood of patients in the Middle East, local clinicians have shown the region has some of the highest levels of hypovitaminosis D worldwide.[1] This presents an opportunity for governments to address health problems by encouraging increased sun exposure and the fortification of foods with vitamin D could reduce the region's disease
