Lundbeck Seeks Approval For A Novel Alcoholism Treatment
December 2011 | Industry Trend AnalysisDanish drugmaker Lundbeck has submitted a marketing authorisation application (MAA) through the centralised procedure to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for Selincro (nalmefene), a novel opioid receptor ligand for the reduction of alcohol consumption in patients with alcohol dependence. Lundbeck originally licensed the rights for Selincro from Biotie Therapeutics in 2006 for a number of markets and has since expanded the agreement to cover worldwide rights. Biotie received an execution fee of EUR12mn (US$15.6mn) and is eligible to receive up to EUR84mn in upfront and milestone payments, plus royalties on sales.
