BMI View: The medical device sector in Myanmar will remain a low priority for investors due to internal factors such as poor healthcare access and low per capita expenditure on medical services. This is a strong indication that the population will not be able to afford high-tech medical devices and procedures. Neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Vietnam are more competitive in the sector due to increased government commitment to providing better healthcare for the population. We also highlight Myanmar's political regime as a major disincentive to investment.
