BMI View: Although healthcare funding announcements by the Peruvian government promise to introduce much needed medicines and healthcare equipment, we note that its focus on large-scale healthcare spending is not necessary. Instead we believe a simpler and cheaper emphasis on primary care, health and hygiene education, coupled with housing reforms, could be more effective in tackling communicable diseases and raising the country's health profile.
