BMI View: While the rise in prescription drug abuse in Colombia has previously been attributed to unethical prescribing and strong consumer demand, BMI believes the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB)'s assertion that access to cheap generic medicines is linked to increased abuse could compel the country's health authorities to review legal provisions surrounding pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution networks.
