Price Freezes Limit Healthcare Spending

BMI View: Despite President Hugo Chavez's growing desire to strengthen Venezuela's healthcare infrastructure, we note price freezes have made the country's business environment increasingly unfavourable. Instead of helping rein in high inflation, we believe the government's continuing interference in the country's pharmaceutical sector has hurt local drug manufacturers and in turn lead to widespread medicine shortages.
