Foreign Drugmakers Increasingly Face Local Certification Requirements

BMI View: A couple of months into President Ollanta Humala's presidency, we are beginning to see hints of protectionist policies play out. While it is important to ensure that pharmaceutical imports entering Peru are safe and of good quality, BMI is concerned that Peru's decision to assess import quality on an ad-hoc, country-by-country basis might lead to certification delays, effectively pushing some foreign drugmakers out of the country's small but growing pharmaceutical market.
