WHO To Help Drugmakers Reach Prequalification

BMI View: Uncompetitive local drugmakers in Nigeria can only survive with government intervention or investment. This help has come in the form of the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Development Fund (NPDF), rather than protectionist purchasing policies. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO)'s assistance to local manufacturers will improve the quality of medicines and make the companies more competitive with foreign generic drugmakers, particularly those from India and China. This development is big news for local drugmakers and BMI may need to revise its forecasts for domestic production up significantly if this development yields positive
